Feng Songji (played by Eiji Funakoshi), a producer at a television station, is a flirtatious man who has numerous affairs, with over ten mistresses aside from his wife, Shuangye (played by Fujiko Yamamoto). Although Shuangye is aware of her husband's behavior, she is at a loss and can only focus on running a bar to relieve her distress. Songji's mistresses are jealous of each other and know of each other's existence; while they resent Songji's promiscuity, they can't help but feel attached to him. One of the mistresses, Ishishita Ichiko (played by Keiko Kishi), approaches Shuangye and hints at wanting to kill Songji. Although it is said in jest, it leaves Songji in a cold sweat. Once his fright subsides, he and his wife plan to stage a fake death to thoroughly rid themselves of these women's entanglements... Directed by Kon Ichikawa, with the screenplay written by his wife, Natsuto Wada.
