In 1950s America, television writer Alfred Miller was blacklisted for his support of communism and couldn't publicly publish his works. He turned to his old friend Howard Prince (played by Woody Allen) and asked him to publish under Howard's name, offering him a ten percent commission. Thus, Howard transformed from a struggling restaurant cashier into a famous television screenwriter. He also found other writers who had been blacklisted to act as "fronts." Howard met a female staff member at the television station, Florence Barrett (played by Andrea Marcovicci), who greatly admired his talent, and they fell in love. Actor Hecky Brown was also blacklisted; he was asked to investigate Howard's political background but found nothing. Later, Florence resigned due to her communist beliefs, and Hecky, unable to continue his acting career due to his communist ties, committed suicide. Witnessing Hecky's funeral deeply affected Howard, leading him to navigate the investigation when he was called before the committee.......
