A security guard from mainland China, A-Feng (played by Yung Kwong), is agile and has always wanted to explore the world. One day, he displays great courage and, along with his cousin police officer Ah-Hua (played by Michelle Yeoh), rescues hostages kidnapped by a group of terrorists, earning praise from the police station. A-Feng believes this praise is meaningless, so he ventures alone to Hong Kong to seek his fortune. Six months later, Ah-Hua is sent to Hong Kong to collaborate with the local police in investigating a notorious gang and temporarily stays at the home of assistant inspector Ah-Ming (played by Jacky Cheung). Ah-Ming develops feelings for Ah-Hua and tries to pursue her, but she can't forget about A-Feng. Soon, Ah-Hua meets A-Feng again, and they talk a lot.
